Going the extra 13.1 miles – and not just for fun!

Jessie May Logo picMoving Experience recently announced that we will be supporting local children’s charity Jessie May. A great local charity that helps children with terminal illness in Bristol, South Glos, and BANES and their families, by providing a ‘hospice at home’ service for the children that they care for. The brilliant nurses that provide this care help the families by giving parents a rare few hours of respite, to enable them to shop, spend time with siblings, or simply get some sleep.

We’re keen to show our support, and through the ‘Caring at Work’ initiative we’ve committed to fundraising to sponsor a dedicated Jessie May Nurse. With this in mind we’ve discussed ideas for several activities which will take place throughout next year. The first (and possibly largest) challenge that we’ve opted to undertake is the Vitality Bath Half Marathon in March 2015.

Bath Half jpgI surprised a number of people, myself included, back in October 2009 when I completed the Longleat 10k, and then again in March 2010 (because I’d enjoyed Longleat so much) by entering & completing the Bath Half Marathon. From these two events I was able to raise over £400* for Cancer Research UK and £1,000* for CLIC Sargent respectively, thanks to the support of friends, family, and clients.

This time, after 5 busy years that have included not enough exercise, and although I know it will take quite a bit of training, the idea of running around Bath for a couple of hours half-dressed isn’t quite as daunting. However, the same might not be said for my Administrator Yvette, or new Apprentice Will, who I’m delighted to say I’ve persuaded to join me to participate as ‘Team Moving Experience’. Together, we’re hoping to raise over £1500.

Here’s what they have to say about the prospect of taking part:

Will OHara ApprenticeWill says, “I have never attempted anything like this before, but I have always wanted to. I’ve  never had the right reasons or motivation. I’m very excited and I think it will be a great personal achievement, especially as training in winter is going to be very tough.

Photo 03-12-2014 14 36 31Yvette says, “When Matt first mentioned raising money for charity by running in a race, I thought yes I can do that – it’ll be fun and great to support Jessie May which is a really worthwhile cause. Now I’ve started jogging I’ve realised its quite a bit further than I thought! I know it’ll be a challenge but I’m looking forward to completing it and raising lots for the charity.”

Once again I need to ask you all to please dig deep, to show support for the team’s efforts, but more importantly donate as much as you can to support this fantastic charity and the awe inspiring work that they do.

We really appreciate your contribution, thank you – you can donate here.
