This month’s blog comes from Will, who looks back on his first year as a Mortgage Administrator with Moving Experience. Will is the second apprentice to join the business, and contributed (in part) to Moving Experience winning ‘Micro Employer of the Year’ at the Bristol Post & Bath Chronicle Apprenticeship Awards in May this year.
I joined Matt & Yvette at Moving Experience at the start of November 2014, and I can’t believe that I celebrated my first anniversary recently – I learned a new office tradition. It seems that like celebrating a birthday, it was me who had to buy the celebration cookies!
As a Mortgage Administrator my role involves submitting applications, supplying supporting documentation to providers, and lots of interaction with clients to make sure that they know what is happening with the progress of their applications.
It’s the client communication that’s by far the best part of my job, and trying to ensure that applications progress smoothly and swiftly as possible for the customers that we help.
I help Matt to manage some of the customer information which we use on a daily basis in several different ways, including application submissions, transfer of details to product providers, customer relationships, and also internal processes to monitor business performance. I understand that applying for a mortgage or for protection insurances can be a daunting task for people – it is our job to make this as easy as possible.
Around this time last year Moving Experience signed up to support Jessie May Trust, and pledged to raise at least £1,000 for the charity during the year. We’re all really proud that we’ve been able to far exceed that target. The first event that we took on was Bath Half Marathon, and training through the dark winter months was quite gruelling for me because I’m not a runner. I really enjoyed the event itself in March, and found that it was an extremely rewarding experience. Last month we organised an endurance Go-Karting event here in Bristol for Jessie May, which brought together friends, families, clients, and business contacts for a night of ‘on track action’. It was a really fun evening, and our team placed a moderate 5th place out of 10! What’s that saying… it’s not about the winning, it’s the taking part?
I’ve learnt so much in my first year, not only about Mortgages and Insurance, but also about customer service and working processes. I think that I’ve adapted well to working in an office environment, as I had no experience of that before I joined, and I now fully understand the importance that’s placed on providing great customer service and regularly keeping in touch with clients. I’m looking forward to whatever the future brings to me whilst working at Moving Experience and as I progress in my career, including the exams that I need to take early next year, and maybe getting a little quicker in a kart too!
